The one that I used is called Inform 7, and it's the easiest one to learn because it's all written in plain English. There's no crazy code that you have to learn, just a new type of syntax. In many ways, learning Inform 7 was like playing a text game, in that you have to figure out what words it wants you to say to accomplish different tasks.

Inform 7 has a rich set of features that go far beyond what will be covered in this beginner’s guide. The Inform 7 IDE comes with two complete manuals, both of which contain a lot of information about this. If you are looking for an explanation of how things work, Writing with Inform is your friend. You should look at chapters 7 (Basic Actions), 12 (Advanced Actions) and 17 (Understanding).
This particular gaming system is called Inform 7 and it’s used to program interactive fiction games, which used to be called “text adventures” back in the day. Inform 7 offers some unique challenges to thinking, writing, and programming such that I’ve found it to be an excellent system to explore with.
Quest lets you make interactive story games. Text adventure games like Zork and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Gamebooks like the Choose Your Own Adventure and Fighting Fantasy books. You don't need to know how to program. All you need is a story to tell. Your game can be played anywhere.
In Inform 7, there is a way to get the player to input a name at the first prompt with code like this, but if you use this exact code in Inform 6L02 and later then the player's name will always appear as the last command typed. the player name is some text that varies.
